DIY Trip to Buddha Park (Wat Xieng Khuan) Vientiane Laos

Located about 25 kilometers southeast of Vientiane, Buddha Park is accessible by public transport buses or tuktuk. Entrance fee here is 5,000 kip, plus 3,000 if you’re bringing your camera. There is a restaurant at the end of the park near the Mekong River, a souvenir shop and a toilet.

Buddha Park has developed into a major tourism spot with over 200 religious statues including a 40 meter high reclining Buddha. It was built by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat in 1958. Due to his background in Buddhism and Hinduism, the park is filled not only with Buddha images but also Hindu gods, creatures and animals.

Highlight of the park is a three storey giant pumpkin near the entrance with a three meter high mouth that serves as an entrance. Climb the stairs inside to reach the top and take a picture of the entire park.

How to Get There

Go to Central Bus Station at Talad Sao. Take bus #14. Fare is 6,000 kip. Tell the driver to drop you off at Buddha Park. For your return trip, flag down the same bus going to the bus terminal. It takes an hour to get there and two hours ideally to roam around the park so allot half day of your time here. Buses going back tend to take a 10-15 minute stop at the Friendship Bridge. You may roam around and check out local food they sell. There are a lot!

You may opt to take a tuktuk but it costs 200,000. Booked tours normally cost 325,000 kip ($40) including Lao textile for three hours half day tour. So you can save as much as 300,000 kip!
